Ephoto Dam extension for Akeneo: DAM at the service of PIM

For all players in retail and product management in general, pooling digital assets between their PIM and DAM is now a matter of course. That’s why we developed our Ephoto Dam add-on for Akeneo, a key player in PIM.

A virtuous ecosystem around the DAM solution

This is precisely the challenge with a solution such as Ephoto Dam: building a virtuous ecosystem based on the strengths of photo library software.

Indeed, Ephoto Dam:

• provides all types of formats on demand from an original media file,
• distributes media without increasing storage in another tool,
• contains all information related to media intellectual property,
• manages different versions of a media file.

All these advantages make it possible to envisage a link with the PIM to feed product sheets with images, retrieve information about media in the PIM and request from the DAM all possible distribution formats needed by the PIM and potentially by the websites linked to it.

Thanks to the synergies between DAM, which specialises in digital asset management, and PIM, which specialises in product management, significant savings can be achieved by linking the two tools.

The Ephoto Dam plugin for Akeneo

The plugin is actually middleware between Ephoto Dam and Akeneo. It allows you to organise the conditions for synchronisation between the two tools, i.e. the media you want to transfer from your DAM to Akeneo. This gives you a media library that can be used in the PIM.

Not all media in a DAM is necessarily linked to the PIM. A configuration interface allows you to determine the synchronisation conditions, based on an Ephoto Dam field, as well as the metadata to be retrieved. It is also possible to configure all the desired formats in advance, which will be distributed by the DAM via distribution URLs.

It should be noted that the Webp format, which is even lighter than JPEG, is preferable in order to maximise the storage savings made possible by the plugin.

Of course, the link to the product sheet can be made using the product code, shared between Ephoto Dam and the PIM.

The plugin will evolve over the coming months, based on feedback from our first users and future versions of Akeneo and Ephoto Dam.

Real storage cost savings: the planet will thank you! The DAM distributes the media, so there is no need to store it in the PIM. Ephoto Dam will provide the desired formats on demand, whether images, videos or PDFs (for manuals in particular).
