DAM Guide – The different types of hosting for DAM software
Digital files managed in Digital Asset Management software require dedicated and appropriate storage due to their volume, level of distribution on the web, and confidential or critical nature.
Different storage modes for DAM
Hosting is provided either by the publisher (known as cloud storage or SaaS) or by the client themselves (known as on-premise). In the case of client hosting, the client is responsible for the backup and access policy, and even part of the service performance.
SaaS cloud hosting
With hosting by the publisher, users of the Digital Asset Management solution can access their platform anywhere and anytime, provided they have an internet connection. Once connected to the platform, user interactions with the platform are secured by the HTTPS protocol.
This hosting mode has a large distribution capacity using cache systems that enable data to be delivered anywhere in the world with high availability.
The distribution and access performance achieved in this way is often not possible with on-premise hosting. The investment required by an on-premise customer to achieve this level of performance would be too great. However, the choice of on-premise is often not motivated by performance, but by other aspects such as data confidentiality.
In the case of hosting by the publisher, all maintenance, operational support, performance and security are handled by the publisher.
The adaptability of cloud hosting is also a strength when it comes to increasing storage, which can be done instantly. As publisher hosting services are often audited, they are also frequently updated in terms of security and attack protection standards.
In terms of backups, Ephoto Dam software has three data centres in France for its cloud hosting. This allows data to be replicated in three separate and independent locations, providing security in the event of a problem in one of the centres. The addition of OVH CDN to this infrastructure ensures fast access to data anywhere in the world.
Businesses and public bodies benefit from storage space ranging from 50 GB to several TB, depending on their needs. In addition to securing data, Ephoto Dam ensures the smooth implementation of the DAM solution by taking care of the installation, configuration and maintenance of the application.
On-premise hosting
Einden is the only French DAM publisher offering on-premise hosting, i.e. on the customer’s servers.
Although this type of hosting is more restrictive for the customer, it is nevertheless a requirement in a number of cases, particularly for hosting certain types of extremely sensitive data. The hosting offered by Einden has numerous certifications, but the clients concerned often already have a dedicated infrastructure maintained for this type of data and capitalise on it.
To ensure that they are not deprived of a modern DAM solution, Ephoto Dam can also be deployed and maintained on-premise thanks to our team of system and network administrators.
