A DAM solution to bring Le Var to life and make it shine

Land of contrasts and lights, the destination Le Var reveals an exceptional diversity of landscapes. From the majestic Sainte-Baume to the red rocks of the Estérel, from the Golden Islands rocked by azure waves to the emerald waters of the Verdon, its panoramas are shaped by the reliefs, vineyards, and remarkable natural heritage.

This richness gives Var Tourisme the mission to address multiple challenges in order to highlight the identity of Var and each of its territories. The launch of its new graphic identity in 2023 led Var Tourisme to strengthen the management of its digital resources. In this dynamic, the destination chose to rely on a high-performance Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution by adopting Ephoto Dam.

Showcasing Le Var and its unique way of life

Between land and sea, Le Var composes a destination with multiple faces, where each territory asserts its identity through its landscapes, heritage, and way of life. Thelma Sandrock, Communication Officer and Content Manager at Var Tourisme, reflects on the challenges of DAM that today meet the needs of employees and external partners.

The adventure with Var Tourisme truly began in 2012, with the implementation of Ephoto Dam. In a constant logic of enhancing the destination, our DAM solution was then used by internal teams. Over time, needs evolved, a new team was formed, and the retirement of the solution administrator left the tool largely unused. The database, which contained more than 15,000 photos, no longer corresponded to the new visual identity of Var Tourisme, making it difficult to use on a daily basis.

A OneDrive photo library was therefore set up in parallel, but its use quickly became limited: less easy management of copyright and less visibility on the content produced for the Var territories.

“Beyond the aesthetic quality of the visuals, several challenges made a structured DAM tool indispensable.”

As an editor, we sometimes observe tool abandonment when the responsible individuals leave. Identifying project leaders throughout the process allows for managing these transition situations while benefiting from our expert support.

The Ephoto Dam recovery project was therefore relaunched in 2025, with a new dynamic for Var Tourisme.

Classify, find, and manage the media of a territory

With the project relaunched, the needs were clearly defined by the Var Tourisme communication team:

  • Manage copyright with different access and usage levels for internal and external users,
  • Identify the territories best covered in content and those for which new photo or video productions are needed,
  • Classify content and assign it to multiple collections/themes,

The same photo could fall under multiple themes, for example, a Var landscape with vineyards, linked to both landscapes and wine tourism.

  • Add precise tags in indexing, such as the presence of humans or seasonality to facilitate search

Implementing a DAM opens up multiple possibilities for managing and centralizing your media and adapts to your industry. We work with numerous organizations in the Tourism sector that can find, thanks to the DAM, content consistent with their destination's visual identity and tailored to the communication needs of their staff.

“Previously, it was certain that we sometimes missed the most suitable content due to difficulty in finding it.”

Our team was able to effectively support Var Tourisme in revitalizing its photo library and becoming fully operational for their 2026 communication plan.

A Front Office at the service of partners

During the project redesign, Var Tourisme was impressed by the interface of our new Front Office, which meets the needs of the majority of its users, whether they are Var Tourisme employees or external partners.

“Our choice mainly focused on Ephoto Dam for the quality and ergonomics of its new Front Office”

The Front Office serves as a true showcase for the destination. It facilitates the availability of media and allows all professionals wishing to promote the Var to easily access reliable, high-quality content with controlled usage rights.
