Ephoto Dam’s CSR actions

These days, it’s essential to take into account the environmental impact of the tools you use on a daily basis. This criterion is no longer an option, and even more so for digital companies. At Einden, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact in order to offer a sustainable, sovereign and environmentally-friendly DAM solution.

At our scale, we can implement procedures and functionalities to improve the impact of the use and distribution of your media. DAM software needs to be scalable and adaptive to meet the challenges of today’s world.

Optimising your media

Ephoto Dam has thought and thought again about optimising your media. We offer broadcast formats such as WebP and AVIF for images and soon WebM (VP9 and AV1) for videos. These are more modern, lighter formats that free up storage space by compressing the media.

We also support progressive loading of your media. So, for example, for a video, our solution will load it progressively to save bandwidth. If you quit during playback, only the part of the video you are watching will have been loaded. We also support automatic bandwidth detection to optimise video playback in real time.

Media, whether videos, images or even sound files, can account for up to 80% of the weight of a web page. Thanks to our CDN network and automatic thumbnail generation, Ephoto Dam lets you optimise the display of your web pages, making them fast and economical in terms of energy consumption and bandwidth.

Ephoto Dam also features advanced duplicate analysis. Our solution will intelligently compare your images, separating foreground, background, shapes and colours. A visual signature will be generated and compared with your entire database. If a visual duplicate exists, Ephoto Dam will inform you of its discovery and offer you the option of choosing the version you want to keep.

If indexing has already been carried out on the file that is to be deleted, you can carry it forward by simply clicking on the version that is to be kept. This detection is based solely on the visual content of your image, regardless of resolution, metadata or file name. A database without duplicate detection takes up around 30% more disk space.

It is also possible to analyse the statistics within your photo library software to track the habits of your users, the most used collections and the most downloaded media, for example. This allows you to identify the most relevant elements and their effectiveness. Once a study has been carried out, it is then necessary to sort through and delete unused content in order to optimise your storage. A document policy is therefore very important as soon as your DAM is set up, in order to determine how your data will be stored (and therefore to anticipate the volume of your DAM).

Raising user awareness

A very important aspect of reducing the environmental impact of our tool is also the awareness and training of our users. A well-trained person with easy access to information will be more inclined to use the tool properly. The process will be respected and optimised. In addition to our training courses, we provide our users with Ephoto Academy, an e-learning space where our trainers explain the different functions of the software on video. This space is updated every month and the trainers are available to our customers on the hotline.

We are also committed to using videoconferencing for our training courses and workshops, to minimise the need for our staff to travel.

The Ephoto Dam solution now goes even further

Artificial intelligence, today’s IT revolution, has a growing environmental impact in terms of electricity consumption and CO2 emissions.  Training and using general-purpose natural language processing models such as ChatGPT requires an enormous amount of electricity.

With our DAMIA Lab research laboratory, we are committed to training and using our own specific models optimised for your DAM. So that every kilowatt-hour consumed is as efficient as possible. A sovereign, well-thought-out strategy that has been in place since the labcom was founded in 2021!

Our AI models are sovereign, compact and trained with your own document language, increasing the quality of the service provided while reducing power consumption compared with the use of third-party generalist AIs. The results are more precise because our AI works with a concrete and precise database, which enables specialist and non-generic indexing. This method is more sustainable, consumes much less power and optimises your searches. A winning and more sustainable combination.

Social commitment and employee well-being

The well-being of our employees at work is paramount and we are committed to continually improving the environment around them.

Their schedules can be flexible, and we offer teleworking so that they can find balance and stability in their professional lives.

Gender parity when recruiting our employees is a very important issue, as we want to promote equality between men and women. Einden wants to integrate and include every employee in order to guarantee peace of mind in the workplace.

What’s more, Einden is a handicapped-friendly company that fosters benevolence and the realisation of everyone’s potential.

Involvement in the local community

Einden does its utmost to help its local partners, pass on its know-how and contribute to local activity. We have formed partnerships with a number of institutions, including :

  • Sports associations to encourage our employees to be physically active,
  • We have been working with the University of Poitiers for many years, regularly welcoming interns, work-study students and doctoral students. Helping to train students and enabling them to work on practical projects are actions that are close to our hearts,
  • Since 2022, we have been working with the University of Poitiers and the XLIM research institute based in Poitiers on our joint research and development laboratory, DAMIA LAB. A project that we regularly present at local events. Inauguration of the joint DAMIA Lab with the President of the University of Poitiers

  • Since 2018, we have set up a partnership with the Gamers Assembly, an event held every year in Poitiers. A major event, known nationally for bringing together the best video game teams in the world. The association benefits from an Ephoto Dam space to upload and distribute all their content on their various communication media.
  • Our in-house events are organised by our teams and we systematically work with local service providers for the various services on offer (catering, venue, etc.).

Since its creation, Einden has always contributed to and been very involved in local projects. We continue to develop and implement these initiatives every year.
