Points to check when hosting your DAM solution

Choosing the right hosting solution for your DAM (Digital Asset Management) system is essential to ensure the security, availability and performance of your digital assets. Several technical and environmental criteria must be taken into account, which we will outline in this article.

Media storage: capacity, scalability, and performance

Storage is at the heart of your DAM solution. It must meet your current needs while anticipating the growth of your assets (images, videos, documents, etc.).

  • Make sure you have enough storage space for all your files. Consider versions and metadata. Choose a scalable solution that can adapt to your increasing data volume without interrupting service. Fast file access and processing are also essential, especially if your photo library software is used by several teams simultaneously.
  • Choose infrastructures that use high-performance storage technologies (SSD, NAS, etc.) to optimise response times.

With Ephoto Dam, you benefit from a dedicated French infrastructure, offering high service continuity to meet your teams’ expectations. Einden guarantees an uptime rate of over 99.9% per year for Ephoto Dam servers.

It is also possible to add a document collection to your project at a later date thanks to the flexibility of our offering. We will increase the space required, regardless of how much storage space you need.

Hosting location: sovereignty and latency

The location where your DAM solution is hosted directly affects data protection, compliance with regulations, and access speed.

If your assets contain sensitive information, check that the hosting complies with local regulations (GDPR in Europe, for example).

Find out where the software’s data centres are located. The closer the servers are to your users, the shorter the loading times will be. A distributed infrastructure can be an asset for international companies.

At Ephoto Dam, our servers are hosted by OVH, the European leader in cloud computing. Your data is stored in France and has three data centres in France for cloud hosting.

Redundancy, server clusters and load balancing ensure good load distribution and guarantee business continuity in the event of hardware failure.

Replication of your DAM data: security and availability

Data replication is essential to protect your digital assets against loss or corruption. Your data must be duplicated across multiple remote sites to limit the risks associated with local disasters (fires, floods, etc.).

For Ephoto Dam, a copy (snapshot) of the data is made every 15 minutes. The second backup server, located in a geographically remote location (in Strasbourg), provides an additional daily backup with a retention period of one year. The technical team monitors the three infrastructures 24/7 (monitoring hardware, systems, services, applications and anti-intrusion). The addition of the OVH CDN to this infrastructure ensures fast access to data anywhere in the world.

Security Insurance Plan

Creating a Security Assurance Plan (SAP) can help ensure compliance with the publisher’s rules and standards.

For Ephoto Dam, the document is available to our customers.

This document describes the measures that Einden undertakes to implement in order to meet the customer’s security requirements, and the customer’s responsibilities in this regard. In particular, it defines the organisation that will be put in place, the methodology to be followed to manage the security of the outsourcing project, and the technical, organisational and procedural measures that will be implemented.

Renewable energy: responsible accommodation

The environmental impact of hosting your DAM solution is an increasingly important criterion. Eco-friendly hosting is not only beneficial for the planet, but also for your company’s image.

When it comes to our servers, we chose our partner OVH for its commitment to the environment (100% renewable energy used). OVH is also ISO 5001 certified (aimed at improving energy performance) and participates in the European Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency in Data Centres.

Media, whether videos, images or even sound files, can account for up to 80% of a web page’s weight. Thanks to our CDN network and automatic thumbnail generation, Ephoto Dam also allows you to optimise the display of your web pages, making them fast and economical in terms of energy and bandwidth consumption.

Suitable hosting for your photo library software

Choosing the right hosting solution for your DAM is a strategic decision. By carefully considering the points discussed (storage, hosting location, replication, renewable energy and disaster recovery), you will optimise the security, performance and sustainability of your assets.

Ephoto Dam adapts to your needs and offers optimal hosting for your media.
